Our goal is to assist users of PTC software during this epidemic who needs to work remotely. This blog will cover how to install licenses onto new machines, moving these licenses from old machines to new ones, setting up a floating license server, changing floating licenses into TEMPLOCK, and general trouble shooting for these tasks.

Below are directions on how to set up an available license for a new machine. The process includes:

  • navigating the PTC support page to the PTC Licensing Tools page
  • searching for your License
  • installing the license on your machine.

Follow the detailed steps below:

HOW TO INSTALL AVAILABLE LICENSES

STEP 1 – Where you need to go on the support page to gain access to your licenses.

Note: this assumes you have a PTC account setup

  • Log in to your PTC account at Support.PTC.com
  • Go to the License Management page
    • This can be found in one of two ways
      • The first way you can find it by scrolling down the page until you see the hexagon shaped icons below and select “Manage Licenses”Screenshot of Manage License
      • The second way is to select the Tools tab at the top of the page and navigate to “PTC Licensing Tools”Screenshot of Tools

STEP 2 – Once on this page there are multiple ways to locate your license, but not all ways are suitable for everyone
  • For larger customers with MANY different licenses:
    • Enter the Sales Order Number (SON) or Service Contract Number (SCN) in the Quick Licensing Section
      • This information can be located within your Shipment Confirmation Letter
      • Searching up the SON/SCN can be faster sometimes if there are many different licenses with the organization Screenshot of SON/SCN search

The products included in the Sales Order Number or Service Contract Number are returned.

  • Recommended search method for most other customers with fewer licenses:
    • Alternatively, you can go to Advanced Search and click Search to view all of the accessible Available, Installed and Expired license.

The products are returned at packaged level (orderable). To see their full components, you can choose to expand the package.

Depending on their status, the packages are categorized and returned in different tabs: Available, Installed, or Expired. Each tab has a different set of licensing actions available.

STEP 3
  • Check the box of the available packages you wish to install
  • Once selected, click Install License

STEP 4
  • Specify the quantity to be installed
    • Specify the Host ID (MAC address) of the computer
    • Note: This can be found by running the follow command in the windows command prompt (without the quotes):
      • "ipconfig/all"
      • Typically Host ID willl be marked as Physical Address and will be under the “ethernet adapter ethernet” section. Although all machines are different and this may change.
      • Alternatively, if you run the Setup.exe file from the creo download in the bottom left corner the Host-ID Creo is looking for will also be displayed.
        • Note: This host ID is not the only host-ID that your machine can use but is the recommended one. For example, you can use the wireless adpter on your network as your host-ID, but is not recommended because this will change as your move your work station bewteen networks and will cause you to lose access to the software until you fix the issue.
  • Select the Contact and the Site Address by choosing from an existing list of values. This information can be located within your PTC account info or Shipment Confirmation letter.
  • Once the information is populated, select Install License

STEP 5
  • Review and Confirm the transaction
  • Check your Email. The License File should be received within an hour
    • The email you receive with contain a License.zip folder which will contain two .txt files.
      • The files will be of the form lm_15306527_1788621.txt and lm_15306527_1788621_standard.txt
      • The *_standard.txt file is not needed and can be deleted. The other non-standard one is your license.
    • If this takes more than an hour don’t be afraid to run through this process again. When you do this you are technically opening a case with PTC to send you your license for a certain machine, but sometimes the system wont actually fulfill the case and wont send you your license.
      • You can check this by looking at your licenses, as described in step 2, and see if they have been moved from available to installed or if they are associated with your machine’s Host-ID
